I am J’nae Travanner Skysen … a boomer … one born aboard and spending life growing up on a a space freighter … In this case, the “Setting Sun.”

For at least three generations before me, my family worked freighters.

But I’d see those Starfleet ships they’d encounter and dream … until finally, I was living her dream.

So, I was the first in my family in those generations to leave life aboard freighters and the first ever to enroll in Starfleet via the academy.

Was fresh out of the academy when the Dominion War struck.
Served during the first days of the war as an engineer aboard an Excalsior-class cruiser (refitted like the Enterprise B).

The Beowulf was a noble ship, but there is only so much one ship can do against four Jem’hadar attack ships.

Our captain tried to lose them in the Badlands but without success … at least for our ship.

In the end, he had us abandon Beowulf and hide from those attack ships using the escape pods and shuttles while he, the first officer and several of the command staff sacrificed themselves and ultimately the ship while leading them away.

Our enemy thought ship destroyed with all hands.

Survivors were transported to Deep Space 9 to await reassignment.

It was during this time that I was suddenly gripped by Pon Farr and met a rather unique Scottish/Bajoran engineer named Alan Nyrros Pathfinder who became a lover / companion whom I’ve shared time and life with ever since.

Called “Jenni” by her friends, she presently serves as captain of the refitted Excelsior II-class explorer U.S.S. Stardrifter.

SECTION 5: CULTURE & TONE – USS Asclepius

“Compassion, Not Complacency”

Though built for healing, Asclepius serves in some of the most harrowing and uncertain regions of the galaxy. Her crew walks the fine line between aid and armament — between mercy and military readiness. The tone aboard reflects that tension: respectful, collaborative, often intense — but never cynical.

Asclepius doesn’t merely heal wounds. She stands where few dare to, carrying the dual burden of defense and care.

Tone Summary

AspectDescription
AtmosphereWarm but professional, defined by purpose. Crew often works long shifts with minimal downtime. “You rest when the patients rest.”
Morale StyleQuiet camaraderie. Not flashy or traditional; team loyalty is built through shared trauma, not pep talks. Jokes happen, but they’re earned.
Leadership EthosMutual respect, autonomy, clear chains of command. Fox White leads with calm, letting strong officers like Flores and Gyramu challenge him when needed.
Operational StyleEmergency-first logic. Training is ongoing and immersive. Crew is expected to improvise under fire and rotate between tactical and humanitarian roles seamlessly.

Ship Traditions

  • Blue Light Vigil: After every major casualty or triage operation, the ship dims its lights to pale blue for one full cycle to honour the lives touched or lost.
  • First-Step Protocol: The youngest crew member steps off the ramp first on a new world — symbolizing Starfleet’s commitment to growth and future generations.
  • The Quiet List: A scroll in the main lounge lists the names of crew saved from near-death, recovered via Helix Team or EMH units. Names are added silently, without ceremony.

Informal Touches

  • Helix Team’s quarters are one deck below the emergency triage bay, and decorated with mission badges, black humor posters, and improvised sleeping nests for long standby rotations.
  • Janiyah “Jazz” Ruiz often pipes old Earth jazz through Flight Ops, especially during low-orbit approaches.
  • Dr. Eyaya Thal grows medicinal fungi in climate-controlled glass domes along the science corridor walls — crew members leave riddles or haikus for her on the glass in marker pens.
  • Rosie Jones maintains a “salvage shelf” — a physical shelf of weird tech fragments rescued from transporter logs. No one knows why.

Current Cultural Threads

  • Many crew members carry memories of the Dominion War or the post-Hobus relief efforts. The trauma of the galaxy’s scars runs deep — but so does the resolve to prevent more.
  • The presence of liberated Borg (Rosie), a hologram (Orel Jax), and exchange officers (Korrath, Velan) creates a deep ethic of inclusion and identity exploration.

Key Ethos

  • “The mission doesn’t end when the fighting stops — that’s when it starts.”
  • “We are not here to conquer or retreat. We are here to catch those falling through the cracks.”
  • “A scalpel can do what a phaser never will.”

Section 6: Starship Systems Detail

6.1 MASH System Overview (Molecular Adjustable Surgical Hospital)

The MASH system aboard the USS Asclepius represents the apex of Starfleet’s modular technology design. Integrated throughout the vessel, the MASH network enables entire sections of the ship to be reconfigured for mission-specific medical, containment, or humanitarian needs.

Core Functions:

  • Bio-Adaptive Environment Controls: Decks auto-regulate atmospheric, gravitational, and radiation conditions based on the biology of incoming patients.
  • Holographic Diagnostic Suites: Enhanced by adaptive learning AI, these suites allow for real-time triage, symptom mapping, and surgical simulations.
  • Crisis Morphing Protocols: In mass casualty events, the system prioritizes high-density triage pathways, converting corridors, cargo bays, and even holodecks into emergency wards.

6.2 Specialized Medical Systems

Surgical Pods:

  • Self-sterilizing chambers equipped with high-resolution imaging and exo-surgical arms.
  • Compatible with over 250 humanoid and non-humanoid physiologies.

Long-Range Medical Sensor Arrays:

  • Deployed via dorsal sensor platforms.
  • Capable of scanning biosignatures across planetary scales, identifying epidemiological threats, and scanning starship crew biometrics during rescue ops.

Emergency Transport Buffer Archives:

  • Short-term, high-fidelity bio-pattern storage for personnel in medical stasis.
  • Maximum ethical retention time: 36 hours.
  • Approved for use only under Directive 487-G (Mass Casualty Emergency Only).

Containment Isolation Vaults:

  • Internally reinforced rooms for infectious or unknown medical anomalies.
  • Equipped with anti-transport dampening fields and Level 10 biometric locks.

6.3 Tactical Medical Enhancements

Despite being a rapid-response vessel, the Asclepius integrates systems normally reserved for frontline ships:

Defensive Medical Field (DMF):

  • A Class 4 containment field capable of stabilizing collapsing hull sections while preserving medical quarantine.

Adaptive Gravity Well Generator (AGWG):

  • Deflector-based tech used to disable hostile vessels by momentarily increasing mass signature in a localized area.

Sensor Jamming Suite:

  • Cloaks medical activity from hostile scans when operating in high-threat zones, protecting patients and away teams.

6.4 Shipboard Medical AI: “Nightingale”

An integrated subroutine of the main computer core, Nightingale functions as an advanced decision-support AI designed to:

  • Triage incoming medical emergencies
  • Assist doctors in treatment options
  • Prioritize surgical operations during multi-casualty events
  • Serve as a voice interface in all trauma bays, bio-labs, and MASH-converted areas

Voiceprint: Female, mid-30s, calm tone with optional bedside manner modulation

Failsafe: Nightingale is programmed to defer final ethical judgment to senior medical officers or the captain in cases of Directive conflict

Character Bible: Lt. Korrath, Son of Drenn

Background:
Born on Qo’noS, Korrath grew up in the shadow of Drenn, his father, a prominent legal prosecutor of the Klingon High Council Courts — a man who fought with words as blades and never lost a case. Though Korrath trained in the warrior arts, he came to respect his father’s interpretation of honor through justice, and carries that respect proudly into every conflict.

Instead of joining a House with a blade in his hand, he requested assignment to the KDF Exchange Program, selecting Starfleet not out of rebellion, but from a genuine belief that its ideals show a new kind of strength — one too often mocked by the Empire.

Tactical Specialization:

  • Expert in breach entry tactics and area control weaponry
  • Trained in non-lethal deterrents for civilian population protection (a point of personal growth)
  • Strong understanding of KDF martial traditions and Starfleet tactical protocols
  • Serves as morale backbone to Helix Team in tense missions

Personality:

  • Eager, direct, never ashamed of where he comes from
  • Embraces both discipline and battle-rage, depending on the scenario
  • Unfailingly loyal to Lt. Cmdr. Arleigh, though he sometimes clashes with the team’s more cerebral members
  • Respects those who fight not with fists, but with conviction
  • Keeps a Bat’leth made by his father in the USS Asclepius’ training deck — never drawn unless Starfleet protocol is overridden

Team Impressions:

“He fights like he has something to prove, but never at our expense. I’d follow him through a plasma storm.”
— Lt. T’Lira Varan

“Every time someone calls him a brute, he smiles… and makes them feel foolish with perfect Federation dialect and philosophy.”
— Cassandra Arleigh

Character: Specialist Orel Jax (HOLO–ENGRAM SERIES 47902–JX)

Species (formerly): Barzan
Gender Identity: Non-binary (they/them)
Division: Science (Hazmat/Xenoenvironmental Research)
Rank: Civilian Specialist (Former Lieutenant)
Status: Fully Sentient Holographic Entity
Assignment: USS Asclepius, Helix Team
Callsign: “Echo”

Character Bible: Specialist Orel Jax

Background:
Orel Jax was a Barzan xenotoxicologist and biosafety lead aboard USS Krakatoa, known for their reserved brilliance and environmental sensitivity. During a classified first-contact incident with a drifting bioship, Jax was exposed to a quantum-degradable pathogen that attacked oxygenated atmospheres and higher neurological functions.

Knowing they were dying, Jax submitted to experimental engram mapping, a classified Starfleet Medical initiative tied to the Emergency Containment Protocols. Their body died, but their consciousness endured, reconstructed in a custom holographic matrix housed aboard USS Asclepius.

They now serve as the ship’s science/hazmat specialist on Helix Team — quiet, incorporeal, and deeply analytical, with a ghost’s patience and a scientist’s precision.

Personality & Behavior:

  • Reserved, elegant, deliberate
  • Speaks calmly but with emotional undercurrents
  • Sometimes refers to their own death with unnerving clinical detachment
  • Avoids eye contact, not out of disrespect — but disassociation
  • Will risk “disruption” of their matrix to protect the living — considers it ethical protocol

Species: Bolian
Gender: Male
Division: Operations (Hazard Team: Helix)
Assignment: USS Asclepius
Rank: Ensign
Callsign: “Socket”

Background:

Born aboard the SS Baruv Vento, Dorrin Grell grew up in an extended Bolian cargo fleet that traded spare parts and circuit mods across the Federation border zones. A childhood of “fix it before it explodes” taught him fast hands, fast thinking, and fast talking.

Species: Gorn
Gender: Male
Division: Operations (Hazard Team: Helix)
Assignment: USS Asclepius
Rank: Chief Warrant Officer
Role: Heavy Support / Breach Trooper
Callsign: “Crag”

Background:

Hressssk was born within a warrior-clan of the Gorn Hegemony, but unlike many of his kind, he sought structure and philosophy beyond the ancient traditions. An early diplomatic program with the Federation exposed him to Starfleet ideals, and he volunteered for an exchange commission after a peaceful colonial aid mission.

Recruited into the Republic’s Special Operations wing, Velan developed expertise in stealth infiltration, information warfare, and sensor-evading technology.

Her deployment to Starfleet’s USS Asclepius is part of a political exchange initiative, but her loyalty to the Republic — and her pragmatic respect for the Federation — are ironclad. She is no spy, though some wonder.

Zulu Team Roster

Lt. Commander Jaxon Reeve – Human (Team Leader)

Origin: Luna Colony, Earth
Specialty: Tactical Command, Combat Strategy
Background: A battle-hardened tactician shaped by the Iconian War and Hur’q engagements. Reeve forged Zulu Team with a philosophy of no wasted lives—every team member is trained to lead if needed. Respected across the fleet for his ability to bring crews home from impossible missions.

Personality: Focused, authoritative, compassionate
Weapons Loadout: Type-3c Phaser Pulse Rifle, Modular Armor MkXII
Field Trait: Inspires teamwide cooldown reduction under stress

Character Spotlight: Lt. Commander Jaxon Reeve

Role: Team Leader – Tactical Command
Species: Human
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Origin: Luna Colony, Earth
Assignment: USS Fortitude – Zulu Hazard Team Lead

Background

Jaxon Reeve was born beneath the domes of New Berlin, Luna Colony—a second-generation Starfleet officer forged by tragedy. His mother, a medical officer, was killed during the Undine Infiltration Crisis. That loss defined his path.

Reeve enrolled in Starfleet Tactical Academy, excelling in asymmetric combat theory and command psychology. His leadership potential was clear during the Iconian War, where he commanded boarding units with surgical precision under Dominion fire. Rather than taking a post behind a desk, he opted for the front line: Hazard Operations.

Specialization

  • Zero-G Tactical Breach
  • Multispecies Unit Coordination
  • Moral Crisis Decision-Making
  • Adaptive Field Leadership

Personality Traits

  • Calm under fire, leads from the front
  • Always memorizes every team member’s mission stats
  • Keeps a list of fallen teammates and never repeats deployment patterns without studying what went wrong

Quote

“We train for the worst not because we want it—because someone has to stand in the doorway when the vacuum’s on the other side.”

Lieutenant Ssa’kith – Gorn

Origin: Defector Colony, Klenthar System
Specialty: Breaching & Heavy Assault
Background: Once a Gorn Hegemony enforcer, Ssa’kith sought purpose beyond conquest. Recruited by Starfleet’s Path of Redemption program. Now a powerhouse on the battlefield and a calm presence in crisis. His strength makes him the first in during breaches—and the last line when under siege.

Personality: Philosophical, patient, indomitable
Weapons Loadout: Heavy Phaser Repeater, Portable Barrier Emitter
Field Trait: Absorbs incoming damage to protect teammates

Character Origin Spotlight: Lieutenant Ssa’kith

Role: Heavy Weapons & Breach Specialist
Species: Gorn
Current Rank: Lieutenant
Starfleet Status: Active Hazard Ops

Backstory:

Homeworld: Originally from the outer territories of the Gorn Hegemony, Ssa’kith was bred in a war-brood as part of the imperial military caste. He was genetically and culturally designed to conquer, dominate, and survive.

Defection:

During a brutal campaign along the Tzenkethi border, Ssa’kith’s unit was ordered to sterilize a rebel colony—one containing civilians. For the first time, Ssa’kith disobeyed orders, shielding a group of noncombatants. Branded a traitor, he fled under fire and surrendered to Starfleet at Outpost Omega-Six.

Redemption in Starfleet:

Sponsored under the “Path of Redemption” initiative, he underwent three years of integration, combat deprogramming, and cultural reconditioning. Now, he uses his strength to protect—not to subjugate. He chose the name “Ssa’kith”, meaning “shielding claw” in ancient Gorn.

Personality Traits:

  • Quiet, rarely speaks unless important
  • Follows Reeve’s orders with unwavering discipline
  • Secretly mentors Drevik in melee survival tactics

Quote:
“I was made for war. I choose peace. Until peace must be made… by force.”

Ensign Drevik – Denobulan

Origin: Denobula Prime
Specialty: Combat Medicine & Xenobiology
Background: A cheerful medic with a fascination for hostile environments and alien biology. Drevik is Zulu Team’s lifeline—both on the battlefield and psychologically. Keeps morale high with stories, optimism, and fast-acting syntho-cellular regeneration.

Personality: Upbeat, curious, empathetic
Weapons Loadout: Medical Phaser, Stasis Field Grenades, Nanite Injector Suite
Field Trait: Auto-deploy med-nanites when a teammate drops below 20% health

Character Spotlight: Ensign Drevik

Role: Combat Medic & Xenobiology
Species: Denobulan
Origin: Coral Plateau, Denobula Prime
Rank: Ensign

Background:

A cheerful soul with an obsession for dangerous things, Drevik grew up in a multigenerational household of explorers. His three fathers were all field medics, and his six siblings joined various Federation research divisions.

Rather than pursue a safe scientific post, Drevik sought out Starfleet Hazard Ops—because, in his words, “No petri dish beats the rush of patching a Tellarite under fire.”

Field Style:

He wields a modified med-phaser with stunning capabilities and can stabilize team members with a portable nanite matrix. He refuses to carry lethal weapons but is fully trained in hand-to-hand combat, often using stasis emitters to knock enemies out instead.

Traits:

  • Infectiously upbeat, even in firefights
  • Brews teas from alien flora post-mission to calm the team
  • Keeps a lucky Denobulan plant in his medkit nicknamed “Snappy”

Quote:
“Don’t die. It’s terribly inconvenient for morale.”

Ensign Velra T’Laan – Vulcan/Romulan Hybrid

Origin: Mol’Rihan (New Romulus)
Specialty: Tactical Science, Alien Tech Analysis
Background: A dual-world child of logic and instinct. Velra’s talent for battlefield analysis and tech disruption gives Zulu Team the upper hand against enemies relying on shielding, cloaking, or energy fields. She operates on the principle: “Victory Favors insight, not impulse.”

Personality: Quiet, precise, internally conflicted
Weapons Loadout: Phaser Compression Pistol, Multi-Spectrum Disruptor Kit
Field Trait: Auto-tag enemy weak points after scanning

Character Spotlight: Ensign Velra T’Laan

Role: Tactical Science / Alien Technology
Species: Vulcan/Romulan hybrid
Origin: Khellian Settlement, New Romulus
Rank: Ensign

Background:

The daughter of a Romulan Republic official and a Vulcan ambassador, Velra lived between ideologies—logic and instinct, control and emotion. Trained in Vulcan disciplines by her mother, and skilled in decryption, linguistics, and xenotech from her father’s influence, she struggled with acceptance from either world.

Starfleet Ascent:

She joined Starfleet as a tactical analyst but requested reassignment after aiding in the shutdown of a rogue Borg nanite relay in the Solene system. Starfleet Intelligence noticed her calm reaction under pressure and suggested Hazard Team integration.

Traits:

  • Pragmatic, emotionally distant at times
  • Practices modified Vulcan meditation that incorporates Romulan poetry
  • Has memorized over 50 species’ neural architecture

Quote:
“I analyse. I adapt. I survive. That is not logic—it is experience.”

Lt. JG Nalora zh’Khev – Andorian (Zhen)

Origin: Andoria
Specialty: Reconnaissance & Close-Quarters Combat
Background: Formerly of the Andorian Imperial Guard, Nalora is a blade-in-the-dark operator. Her antennae give her unparalleled spatial awareness. She’s the one who clears the path through enemy territory, or holds the line with just a combat knife and willpower.

Personality: Intense, honourable, fearless
Weapons Loadout: Twin Disruptor Blades, Adaptive Camouflage Armor
Field Trait: Gains evasion and speed when health drops below 50%

Character Spotlight: Lt. JG Nalora zh’Khev

Role: Close Quarters Combat & Recon
Species: Andorian (Zhen)
Origin: Lor’taan Glacier Range, Andoria
Rank: Lieutenant Junior Grade

Background:

Born into a bonded clan of Imperial Guard lineage, Nalora trained from youth in subterranean warfare and arctic combat. Her family’s honor was tarnished after her elder sibling defected during the Klingon-Cardassian Border Skirmishes.

To restore her clan’s name, she enlisted and became an elite shock trooper in the Andorian Imperial Guard—known for leading zero-visibility insertion teams into Breen territory.

Transfer to Starfleet:

During a mission that saved Federation personnel during the Breen occupation of Korvan Station, she gained recognition for her loyalty under fire. Offered a transfer to Starfleet Tactical, she reluctantly accepted—so long as she could “fight on the front, not a bridge.”

She joined Zulu Team after defeating three other candidates in a controlled CQB gauntlet simulation.

Traits:

  • Tactile fighter, rarely uses ranged weapons unless necessary
  • Loyal to death, especially to Reeve whom she calls “Kaleth’rev” – “Shield-Brother”
  • Keeps an Andorian blade tucked into her boot from her Guard days

Quote:
“If we’re dying, we’ll do it with blades drawn and enemies bleeding.

CPO Ch’korrak – Tellarite

Origin: Tellar Prime
Specialty: Engineering & Field Devices
Background: Gruff, blunt, and one of the best combat engineers in the quadrant. Ch’korrak specializes in bypassing security systems, crafting battlefield gadgets, and keeping the team’s gear one step ahead of the enemy. If something explodes on a mission, odds are it was his doing—or his undoing.

Personality: Sardonic, resourceful, secretly kind-hearted
Weapons Loadout: Phaser Mini-Turret Pack, Plasma Arc Welder, EMP Drone
Field Trait: Drones repair armor over time for nearby allies

Character Spotlight: Chief Petty Officer Ch’korrak

Role: Combat Engineering / Field Electronics
Species: Tellarite
Origin: Quarra Basin, Tellar Prime
Rank: Chief Petty Officer

Background:

Born into a family of structural engineers, Ch’korrak was building security firewalls before he hit puberty. After a pirate raid took out a civilian station he helped design, he vowed to become more than “just a builder.” He joined Starfleet’s engineering corps and eventually specialized in tactical deployment.

Tactical Engineering:

Ch’korrak is infamous for creating “field solutions” like improvised drones, jury-rigged explosive charges, and battlefield sensors cobbled from alien junk. He once rebuilt a transporter stabilizer using a Breen helmet, a bowl of soup, and a fusion capacitor.

Traits:

  • Cranky, sarcastic, surprisingly sentimental
  • Constantly insults team gear… then upgrades it
  • Keeps a running log of every team mission and how many tools it “nearly destroyed”

Quote:
“Engineering is just arguing with physics until you win.”

By Richard Woodcock

The USS Fortitude has a long history, in story telling she has been at the fore-front of play in my days writing in Play by Email and in later years I moved the ship and the Character to Star Trek online when it came online many years ago and her and the Captain have Served proudly and I have let my imagination run wild.

In the last year I have rekindled my love of writing stories and thanks to an old friend I have decided to return the fold and start writing the tales of what I fondly think of in my head as “Star Trek: Fortitude”.

So where did the Fortitude begin?

The First Vessel to Enter Service was the USS FORTITUDE NCC-121021 and was commanded by Captain G. Saracen. She was attached to the 21st Marine Tactical Fighter Wing (Later the 21st Marine Support Squadron) Commanded by the then Lt. Col Miles Llewellyn as their carrier support vessel.

Un-happily the vessel was badly damaged and brought out of service and retired after the Battle of Cordra.

After the Battle of Cordra, the then COMSFE RADM. Sara Pritchatt decided to Honour the 21st Marine Support Squadron after the loss of the original Fortitude and her original Captain to commission a new vessel. The USS Fortitude NCC-121021-A.

This vessel was state of the art and was the largest vessel in operation within Starfleet. She was the Hannibal Class Carrier or (Super carrier) as the class in fondly known as.

The vessel was to be commanded by Miles Llewellyn who was now promoted to the rank of Captain. He was Captain to a vessel that contained 250 Typhoon Fighters and carried a light Corvette class vessel. The Ship herself operated within HDF and Carrier Group Three.

However the vessel, only one of four built was seriously damaged after only 3 months of operation during the engagement at the Cordan Expanse and more so during the Battle of Centerpoint Two where the bravery of Carrier Group Three and importantly more so of the crew of the Fortitude helped evacuate all Starfleet people and equipment from Neffen. The vessel was solely responsible of downing many Horvaukan vessels and herself made the retreat to Ansolon-one under her own power.

The Vessel now stands at Ansolon-one where she is to be restored and turned into a shrine to the memory of the people that died during the retreat.

After the Battle of Centerpoint Two and the loss of the Fortitude-A the name Fortitude had become a legend within Starfleet, such as the Enterprise.

It is with that ironic nature of the universe that the new COMSFE Adm. Littleton commissioned the USS Fortitude NCC-121021-B. The reason this is ironic is due to the Fortitude returning to service as a Frigate in the form of a re-fitted old Constitution Class space frame (As is seen in the above picture).

However the technology on this vessel is very much state of the art and is capable of multi-role assignments, such as Escort duty to Minelayer operations.

The vessel is still commanded by Captain Miles Llewelyn and it is hoped that the Fortitude-B will remain in service for some time and continue her famous voyages.

From here time moved on and we had the Churchill Class USS Fortitude, NCC-121021-B

From those writing days we got the USS Fortitude, NCC121021-C. She was a Heinlein Class Starship.

This is where time and you could almost say things get interesting, you could almost say that was one reality and we switched to a new reality and Star Trek online came into play. We moved to the Sovereign class USS Fortitude, NCC-121021-C

The Fortitude continued in a new reality and she served as an Odyssey class years later as the NCC-121021-D when the Odyssey Class Starship was released into Star Trek online and later become a Lexington Class refit after the battle of Sol.

After an intense battle with the mirror Borg and the evacuation of Deep Space Station k-42 the Fortitude while passing  thru the sector for scheduled maintenance intercepted the distress call of the station  and moved to assist despite not being with her Carrier group she and her crew held the line while the evacuation was expedited. The Fortitude tackled three mirror borg cubes with just herself, her carrier wing and 3 Plymouth class Starships that where assigned to the station.

The station was evacuated with minimal losses to civilian life but at great cost. Admiral Llewellyn fought a broadside battle and using her phaser lance and main deflector dish as a particle weapon destroyed two cubes and crippled the third cube. However the explosion of the two cubes meant wreckage collided with the Fortitude ripping her Port side nacelle and wreckage tearing thru the secondary hull and forward saucer.

The Fortitude was deemed to damage to be restored to front line service however the valiant fight and bravery of her crew and Captain earned the Fortitude a place in the Fleet museum.

This brings us to the New Fortitude, NCC-121021-E.

Admiral Miles Llewellyn was giving his choice of assignments but true to form he only ever wanted to be a Captain. Before the Fortitude’s untimely end Miles had been reviewing new Starships designs and had a Soft spot for the Exeter Class Starships, which where modern takes on older ships and remind him of the Older Ships names Fortitude.

So forever a dreamer at times Miles took command of a Exeter class Fortitude.

So the voyages of the Fortitude moves unto a new chapter, “let’s see what’s out there!”

The namesake of the U.S.S. Shangri-La was introduced in the 2280s as the prototype of the class cruiser that went on to bear its name.

Then in 2399, the eighth and most current starship to bear the name launched as a Constitution III-class exploration cruiser, NCC-2575-G.

She saw several years operating in deep space, scoring several first contacts with newly encountered civilizations in the process while likewise observing / studying several more that were pre-warp and thus direct contact restricted via the Prime Directive.

But then in 2401 she was recalled from deep space and ordered to return to Earth for what ended up becoming another Borg invasion and takeover of the ships of Starfleet itself during that year’s Frontier Day ceremony.

Shangri-La was one among the majority of ships taken over by the Borg, but also one that received only minor damage during the process.

Once repairs were made and the fleet coordination software / systems removed, the Connie III cruiser was released from drydock once more and thrown back out into the depths of space in 2402.

In 2407, the ship was recalled and crew reassigned during as the ship was temporarily removed from active service for overhaul and refit.

Shangri-La G was stripped down only to be built back up with the latest in technology restoring her status to being one of the most advanced exploration ships in the fleet.

A Starfleet officer of mixed Klingon/Human/Romulan heritage, Capt. Hauk Wolfseye, assumed command and oversaw the refit while assembling a new crew for the Connie III’s eventual return to space.

“Not only did the Shangri-La help to survive the Borg on Frontier Day, it also extended our map of known space with many successful first contacts made in the process,” said Wolfseye during an interview prior to ship’s re-launch.

Even before her official re-commissioning, the cruiser was pressed back into service to assist with defending the Alpha/Beta Quadrants from the all out Borg Assault of 2409.

Although this ship was officially re-assigned to Alliance Central Command’s and the Malstrom Expeditionary Force, operating within the Malstrom Expanse, she soon found herself mired down once more into a maelstrom of continuing conflict and war in the form of the Klingon-Federation War, conflicts with the Romulan fight for independence from the Tal Shiar, the Cardassian “True Way” movement and of course the Iconian War and all that followed.

Ship and crew look forward to returning to the Malstrom Expanse and resuming their core mission of exploration and discovery.

Adalma left the Romulan Empire with no family.

He once had a family .. a family of some note before the loss of the homeworld, yet he’d been pushed out by that time.

He also loved science in a family that for generations had served the military.

At a young age, Adalma attended the Romulan Imperial Academy, becoming an officer in the imperial navy after graduating.

Science was a gift that always came naturally to him, but so was the art of combat tactics.

The latter is the one embraced by both family and the Empire and thus the mold he found himself unhappily crammed into.

At least until a console exploded in his face, damaging eyes and optical nerves to the point of being legally blind — his sight too blurry to perform his duties.

It spelled the end of his career in the Imperial Navy as the Romulans considered him les than a man because of it.

As did his family for that matter.

With a long naval tradition, they held his loss of sight against him, making life miserable.

When the evacuations began, his family refused to accept Federation aid or assistance.

Adalma saw it as his ticket out of an extremely bad situation.

Sneaking onto an evacuation ship, he fled ffrom family and the coming horror the supernova represented.

And it was in the Federation that strangers not only took him in … but restored his sight with special glasses.

He surprised himself when he found after this that he actually wanted to get back out into space, but this time studying its mysteries as a science officer.

So, he applied to Starfleet Academy and was fast tracked into the fleet upon his acceptance.

Within two years, he had his own command and now commands the experimental Glenn-class science spearhead cruiser named U.S.S. Raegal.

Daenerys … no family, no last name.

At least at the beginning of her tale.

The half Orion, half Romulan orphan was born in the darkness of slave pits owned by an Orion Syndicate warlord.

Her mother died in childbirth. Her father most likely someone who took advantage of her.

Ask Daenerys the name of either, and she will say simply she never knew them … only that her name was shared from that of her mother, also Daenerys.

She did often dream of her mother, wondering if any of the features of her own reflection might be a shadowy reflection of her.

But there were none in the slave pits where she was born and raised who could tell her anything beyond her mother’s name.

Also she knew is that they as she was growing up, everyone referred to her as “little Daenerys” … aka. short for the fact she was the young daughter of a Romulan slave with that name … Daenerys.

There are rumors she may have half-sisters out in the universe somewhere, but so far … no clues.

Genetic testing is an option that might help, but Daenerys has refused such for fear it might lead her to her birth father … who she would rather believe dead and unknown.

If her mother was Romulan, that would mean he Orion … and likely not a slave but one who took advantage of her mother at some point.

Just as others took advantage of her before her liberation by Starfleet — Capt. Agnarr Krog and the crew of the U.S.S. Valkyrie to be exact.

She still remembers quite clearly the moment freedom came to her.

It was marked at first by sounds of phaser and disruptor fire followed by bright flashes of grenades.

Tasked with finding and “dismantling” the arm of the Orion Syndicate operating within that sector, the Valkyrie had tracked the Syndicate to a network of asteroid bases operating within the Kaldrii system and set to the task of neutralizing said network and brining the ringleaders to Federation justice.

Delarys can quite clearly still see the hand of Capt. Krog reaching down to help her to her feet.

That simple act … climbing to her feet … in that moment represented climbing out of that hellhole and onto a much better life track,

It took time for Daenerys to recover from the trauma of her past life, but she did it.

And after a time, she not only recovered but found she wanted to relish in her freedom by exploring the stars and herself become a Starfleet officer.

Capt. Krog sponsored her application to Starfleet Academy, and on when registering … Delarys gave a lot of thought about how she wanted her name to be listed.

She chose to add to her name the last name of Valkyrie … in honor of those who saved her.

As for the rest of her story, it remains a work in progress.

Author Note — Daenerys actually is actually a rebranding of a character I’ve had in game for a while now. It was a character I realized I never played and whom just didn’t speak to me any longer. So I decided to update the character’s appearance from human to Orion/Romulan with a completely different backstory.
