The Past
Agnarr Olryn Krog had an interesting childhood as he was one who spent his youth growing up in the northern reaches of Norway.
Astrid Thyra Krog was award command of the U.S.S. Excalibur (NCC-1664) in 2270.

He would stare up into the crisp night sky of the long dark and dreaming of the vastness of space while watching the dancing hypnotic lights of the aurora borealis.

Grew up appreciating the natural world and old gods by walking in the footsteps of his ancient ancestors.

He was an interesting mix in that on the one hand, he dreamed of the stars and on the other ... loved losing himself in the frozen wilderness.

The latter was how Agnarr found his path to the old gods ... having felt the presence of Odin as he walked one trail, losing himself in something of a hypnotic trance brought on by the wind dancing among the tree branches and measured tread of his walking staff.

Odin spoke to his heart of seeking wisdom and understanding through wandering ... visiting new places, meeting new people, and experiencing life as he'd never tasted or known before.

Truth be told, there were not many who wished to captain the ship ... considering it cursed because of the incident with the U.S.S. Enterprise in 2268 when an accident claimed the lives of the Excalibur's entire crew.
Thor spoke to him next during a storm where an answer to a question he posed to the great god came in the form of a lightning strike a few feet from where he stood.

Following the incident, discussions were lengthy on whether or not the should be decommissioned in light of the tragedy.
Agnarr has never been as alive as he was in that moment ... at least to that date.

In the end, Starfleet Command decided to see the ship refitted and returned to service with a new ship and crew.
The goddess Freyja encouraged him to follow his dreams even as he dove deeper into his faith as an animist following a Norse spiritual path.

Finding that captain, however, proved difficult until Astrid Thyra Krog was recommended by Commodore Garrett.
When of age, the stars became more real as he was accepted into Starfleet Academy where he became known as the "Starfleet Viking" --- a nickname that followed him the rest of his career.
Proving Their Worth
If not for the circumstances surrounding the Excalibur ... the command likely would have passed to a seasoned officer with slightly higher rank.

Still, Astrid proved herself worthy of the position in short order.
Upon graduation came assignment to the U.S.S. Verity, which was later placed under the command of legendary Admiral Picard himself.

Over the course of the next year, she and her crew performed many difficult missions, before the ship's final destruction.
The ship became flagship in the several year project trying to relocate the Romulan people from worlds within the Empire before their star went supernova.

It was in defense of the colony world Norta VI whereby ship and crew fought off invaders long enough for the colonists to evacuate.
And it was among the refugees that Agnarr found the Romulan woman that would become his wife ... Vaelaryn i-Ahlyrr t'Krog.

The attacking force was an attack squadron comprised of several Romulan warbirds with a pair of Nakuhl cruisers in support.
The year was 2383, and the pair hit it off as whereas the Norwegian had learned to love the natural world on Earth, Vaelaryn learned to do the same among her people on Romulus.
Sword of the Stars ... Final Sacrifice
As the last transport was about to escape into warp, it was already too late for the Excalibur to escape into warp.

The sword of the stars instead found itself at the heart of an explind Nakuhl cruiser that opened a momentary temporal rift which the Excalibur fell through ... cast forward in time to the year 2410.
Of course, they were lucky they seemed well suited for each other AND truly were ... are in love as ... well ... they forgot to use protection and the prescribed months later, their twin daughters Freyja and Aelnari were born in 2386 with daughter Anna born a year later in 2487.

The remains of the Excalibur were discovered by the U.S.S. Highlander (NCC-82307-A), commanded by Capt. Elnyrr tr'Maitland.
The small family settled into Agnarr's ancestral family home on the island of Senja in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway on Earth.
New Ship? ... New Mission
Astrid and the survivors were welcomed home and for those who chose to do so, re-integrated into Starfleet.

Capt. Astrid Krog was further awarded command of the U.S.S. Destiny (NCC-1511)--- a new Constitution-class flight deck cruiser salvaged from the recently recovered Shipyard 39.
With an area of 1,586.3 square kilometers, it is the second largest island in Norway. It has a wild, mountainous outer side facing the Atlantic, and a mild and lush inner side ? and the reason the Starfleet Viking had grown to appreciate natural world as he did.

The shipyard in question had been abandoned in year 2259 due to a a freak eruption that flooded the system with baryon radiation.
Two his credit, Agnarr took seven years serving a post, first on Earth and then commanding one of the patrol ships assigned to the Sol system.

It wasn't until 150 years later that Starfleet could reclaim the system along with ships like the Destiny that had been under construction at the time of evacuation.
It meant he could be home much more frequently to not just watch his children grow, but to be an active presence in their life.

After those seven years (in 2393), wife Vaelaryn told him bluntly it was time he returned to the stars ... not that their marriage suffered but because it was time for his dreams of exploration to be realized.

So he excepted a first officer's billet aboard the U.S.S. Lancashire where he served with distinction until Starfleet decided to tap him to command one a new launch.

Newly minted in rank, Capt. Agnarr Krog had the secret suspicion that someone on the selection committee found it humorous to place the "Starfleet Viking" in command of the new (at least in 2401) Excelsior II-class exploration cruiser, the U.S.S. Norseman.

The Norseman went on to prove itself time and time again ? first as a ship of exploration, then during the Borg invasion of the Beta Quadrant in 2409, followed by the Federation-Klingon War of 2409, the dustup with the Undine, the Iconian War, the Temporal War, the Hurq invasion of the Alpha quadrant, the Klingon Civil War and finally the trouble with the Terran Empire.

Through it all, the Norseman not only helped in forming the shield wall protecting the quadrant and known space, but also at times leading the charge by jumping straight into the fire to save lives and get the job done.

It is aboard the upgraded U.S.S. Destiny that Astrid and her crew find themselves carving out a new place for themselves within this future timeline.
