Jennifer Sue Travanner Hysmith was born in 2228 in Melbourne, Australia, to a mother and father who were themselves both Starfleet officers.
Mykal Hayden Kaiwolf is a human Druid born in the 23rd century, cast like dice across a game board into the future.

Her mother resigned her commission to raise her, planet-side.

The young star-eyed girl always looked to the stars and the distant points beyond  each ... dreaming of what lay beyond the world of her birth.

But although she dreamed of exploration and seeing all those places ... She still married young at age 18, having a child at age 19 -- a son named William Edward Hysmith, named after his father ... Edward Lee Hysmith.

While pregnant, she reflected on the life she had given up and with the help of her parents and husband ...

Of the pair, the dream of bbeing a Starfleet Officer was more Jeni's than Edwards.

So although she spent the first few years raising Danyl planetside on Earth, Edward resigned his commission, wanting to be a "stay-at-home" dad.

This allowed Jeni to follow her own dream of Starfleet.

She enrolled in Starfleet Academy at 27 years of age, graduating near the top of her class at 31 in 2255 --- a year ahead of two of her dearest friends, Isobel Maitland and Sylvia Tilly.

It should be noted she also happened to place top of her class in marksmanship, making her an excellent sniper and high on the lists of many starship captains as Chief Security Officer.

A battle won by Capt. Richard Shaffer of the Shepard-class U.S.S. Highlander.

Then came the Battle of the Binary Stars and the start of the Federation-Klingon War on Stardate 1207.3 in the year 2256.

Just after the war's start, Jeni's commanding officer was killed by the one who would become Jeni's nymesis ... a Klingon named J'ula.

A battlefield promotion placed then Lt. Jeni Hysmith in command of the U.S.S. Highlander (NCC-1307).

She saw her ship and crew through many battles and engagements during that war, bringing them home safe each time .... until she didn't.

The Tempest was among starships responding to a Klingon attack at Starbase One, led by J'ula, who during the battle fired off a weapon at starbase.

A malfuction with the weapon actually destroyed several of the Klingon's own ships (J'ula's among them) as well as several of the defending Starfleet ships.  ... the U.S.S. Highlander and U.S.S. Avalon (under the command of friend Freyja Maitland).

The ships were listed as lost with all hands.
His mother and father, Mari and Trystan Kaiwolf, were both themselves in Starfleet, although neither ever really sought to become more than junior officers (an engineer and science officers) who loved their work.

Truthfully, the Highlander, Avalon and a few other Starfleet vessels plus crew were flung forward in time to the year 2409 where they would have to assimilate into their new time period while helping fight yet another Klingon War .... followed by the Iconian War.
However, it was Mykal's grandmother, Carolyn Kaiwolf, who raised him on earth as his parents lived life out among the stars.

Unfortunately, the U.S.S. Highlander (NCC-1307) protected her crew during the passage through time, but itself could not be salvaged.
That's not to say that they deserted their son, only that their careers called for them to be away from the planet of their birth for months at a time.

Although Jeni still had her friend, Freyja, she has lost her son, husband and parents in one swift move ... learning once in the future that her son himself had been killed in another battle with the Klingons a few dacades later.
They would make sure to visit their son whenever they could, both separately and together as time allowed.

Himself a starship captain, he and his crew sacrificed themselves to by time for the retreat of a Federation task force, saving many lives in the process.
And would send for him to join them for weeks at a time aboard their assigned ships ... When allowed.

This devasted her with her almost taking her life three times before being able to pull herself out of the tailspin of her depression.
But for much of his early life, he spent his time wandering the backwoods of Virginia.

Jeni through herself into her work ... seeking to live up to the examples she saw as her son and husband.
It was from his grandmother, who was a member of the Bear Tribe Medicine Society, that Mykal learned to walk the pathways of the natural world, influenced by the ways of the Aniyvwiya (Cherokee) and the Lakota whom he was lucky enough to find elders of that shared some of their wisdom.

While assimilating to her new time period, Capt. Hysmith assisted with the creating of holo-training senarios based on missions during the first Federation-Klingon War that she herself had been witness too.
Walking through the forests, however, was where he felt the most at home, and it came to a point that he could feel the living energy of live as it flowed around him.

It was the historical records of her son's time as a captain and his sacrifice that led her back to the centerseat ... seeking to keep their shared dreams alive.
Wandering in the wilderness taught him appreciation for the natural world around him.

She was offered command of the U.S.S. Highlander (NCC-82307-A), a Sagan-class Command Cruiser that shared the same name as her former  command.
Feeling the energy of the life there ... to appriciate the many forms of life themselves.

But Jeni turned that command down, saying it would never be *her* Highlander.
He learned to become a druid, but despite the lessons of his grandmother, he still walked a more solitary path, meaning much of what was taught or shared with him sank in was through his own life experiences.

And instead accepted command of a new U.S.S. Reliance (NCC-81728-A), also a Sagan-class Command Cruiser, and seeks to create a new legacy with this new command.
It's how he learned to make it his own.
