BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Freyja i'Skadi t'Krog (her maiden name) was born of mixed heritage ... 1/2 Romulan, 1/2 Norwegian.

Just like her sister, Aelnari -- their father being human and mother a Romulan whose family migrated to Earth as refugees of the Hobius star incident.

She was raised in the island of Senja in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway on Earth. With an area of 1,586.3 square kilometres, it is the second largest island in Norway. It has a wild, mountainous outer side facing the Atlantic, and a mild and lush inner side.

Meaning Freya came to embrace nature and the natural world ... and interesting trait for someone who also loved seeing how technology worked.

She was the one known to dismantle, well, everything. Taking things apart and then putting them back together again.

If she wasn't doing that, then she could be found wandering some path somewhere, disappearing deep into the wilderness of not just Norway but wilderness areas all across Earth.

Unlike her sister, Freya followed in the footsteps of her father in attending Starfleet Academy, but choosing the engineering path whereas their father went tactical.

A graduate of the class of 2408, Freya had the misfortune of being captured by the Borg during their invasion of the Beta Quadrant in 2409.

She was chief engingeer aboard the U.S.S. Ahwahnee at the time of assimilation.

That cube had the misfortune of being thrown backwards in time.

Temporal agents caught up with the cube in the year 2230 when the I.K.S. Qu'In 'an bortaS (under the command of Capt. Hauk) traveled through time with the help of agent Daniels to set the timeline straight by capturing the cube to prevent their altering the timeline and liberating the Borg aboard in the process.

Or maybe it is more accurate to say ... to make sure time unfolded as it was supposed to.

Whereas most of those liberated were returned to what was for them the 2400s, two were not allowed to do so ... separated from the others.

Rhys Maitland and herself.

"You cannot return to the time you once were," Daniels informed both. "At least not yet."

The temporal agent informed both that they were to remain in his current time for a number of years, but that he would one day return for them. ... When the time was right.

And for them to live his life in that time until then as it was what history demanded of him.

Looking back, Freya often wonders if Daniels had been playing matchmaker ... in addition to preserving the course of future events.

Whereas Rhys lived in a small cottage in Glasgow, Scotland, Freya chose to disappear into the wilderness with nothing but a backpack and what could be carried within.

It was good to feel the natural world around her after time spent plugged literally into the Borg collective.

Rhys joined her in her wandering adventures after about six months.

The pair at first enjoyed the views, then discussions of ship designs and engineering.

Then they came to enjoy each other, finally after a few more months settling into Rhys place in the lowlands of Scotland.

The pair married via a blend of Druidic / Old Norse ceremony.

Then they got down to serious time spent expanding engineering and ship design skills.

Even if the designs of that time period were a century or two behind those they once knew.

Whenever someone would ask her about the borg exo-skeletal impant surrounding one hand, she would simply reply that it was a specialized medical brace resulting from a shuttle training exercise gone wrong.

They also found time for each other as Freya gave birth to twins -- Marian and Montgomery Maitland.

Sometime later came another visit from agent Daniels to inform the pair that not only were things continuing to unfold as history wished, but that it was time for them to return to Starfleet.

And somehow, Daniels saw to it that both were able to receive their own commissions (thanks in part to the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-57 when serving officers were in high demand) with Freya serving as Rhys' chief engineer.

Daniels adviced the pair follow their instincts and try to overlook what he already knew of this period in history ... acting naturally without thought of what was remembered of that history.

To treat it as the present, which for them in those moments ... it was.

Little did they know that within a year he would again be thrust through time back with others in tow and sent hurling back towards the future he had left behind those years before.

And so Freja and Rhys both returned to the year 2409, but several years older than when he first left and this time married.

In addition to those aboard their ships (those that survived at any rate), a few other ships from the Battle of Starbase One were thrust through time as well.

Both were thrown through time once more, but not their children now lost to history.

It was Rhys who realized something ... a bit more complicated.

Because of their children, the Maitland family tree now looped back on itself as he himself carried that lineage backwards in time.

And Freya was how Romulan ancestry dripped into the genetics of the new Maitland line.

Turned out that Rhys and Freya were great grandparents of Rhys' best friend from his academy days.

During those earlier years, the academy friends always through it interesting they shared very similar names, although they could find no ties in family genealogy.

That was because Rhys, Freya amd their children were the missing link in their genealogy with his friend having been named after him.  ... after "one of the Maitland clan who died in defense of Starbase One."

Only they didn't die. They lived.

"Having you both present in that moment allowed us to lock onto far more of those present who would have died otherwise ... allowing them to travel forward in time with you," Daniels explained.
